Oh, you mean Valencia Street hip................... I don’t know. You’ll have to ask one of the true Valencia corridor hipsters. But we certainly have enough sense to dig the vibe there. These are pictures from the uber-hip Ritual Coffee Roasters.
First, wrongly assuming we could get a late lunch @ Esperpento (3295 22nd Street between Bartlett and Valencia) – they close between lunch and dinner – we had an hour or so to kill before their 5:00pm open time. So we went for a stroll. We considered eating at Herbivore. I always like it, but Harrison’s gotta be in exactly the right mood to love it, or she hates it.
I can’t remember the last time I really browsed around a good used book store. What a terrific vegetarian cooking section they have at Dog Eared Books (900 Valencia Street, between 20th and Liberty). I bought Living Among Meat Eaters: The Vegetarian’s Survival Handbook by Carol J. Adams (her book The Sexual Politics of Meat: A Feminist Vegetarian Critical Theory is one of my book picks, to the left). Certainly not because I encounter any anti-vegetarianism whatsoever. I just like to know what others experience. Sadly, this book does not merit book pick list inclusion. It’s just not very interesting. I have just ordered her book The Inner Art of Vegetarianism: Spiritual Prtactices for Body and Soul from Amazon. Very much looking forward to it.
Harrison picked up a copy of Vanity Fair magazine and we made our way to Ritual Coffee (1026 Valencia Street). Here reside-eth the hipster population. Pictures above. Great coffee goes w/out saying. Plenty of Vegan baked treats, natch. Loved it.
So, finally we made our way to Esperpento. We both always order our own plate of sautéed cabbage. Then I have an order of Spicey Potatos and one of the grilled artichokes. Harrison had grilled oysters and then quail. It’s easy eating vegan here!
